Tyler Hoogerdyk
1.When did you start riding?
I started riding when I was young, probably like 10yrs old. But when I was 14 my parents sold their place at the lake and moved away so I had a 6 year break before I made enough money to buy a boat and get back into it.
2. What do you ride, boat, board and sponsors?
I just bought a 2011 Nautique 230 this spring so I’ve been riding behind it daily well I was riding behind it daily haha, as far as a board goes I’m riding a liquid force Watson 139 with c/t vantage bindings. I’ve recently started riding for Hello My Name Is Boardshop in Shawnigan Lake and Wizard Lake Marine in Calmar Alberta.
3. What are your accomplishments so far in your wakeboarding career?
I won men’s 1 at provincials 2 years ago which I was pretty stoked on because the competition was good cuz there was no advanced category that year. I stepped up to the pro category last year which was a lot of fun and I placed 3rd at provincials in pro.
4. We all heard about the recent injury, what happened and how are you recovering?
The injury sucks. I blew out my left knee doing a krypt getting my tourney pass ready for this year. My femur went thru my knee and broke a piece of bone off the top of my shin bone (posterior tibia haha). I’m going to the surgeon today to check my acl and meniscus and hoping for good news. Recovery is coming along tho I can bend my knee about half way and put enough weight on it to get thru a round of golf.
5. What sort of tricks were you working on before the break from boarding?
I got away from a lot of the bigger tricks this year and was just having a ton of fun with different grabs n spins I had just learned toe back ones before the injury and was working hard on blind landing tricks toe stale poke frontside 3s and melon crown mobes n switch back ones.
6. What can we expect from Tyler Hoogerdyk next year?
Next year hmmm… You can expect me to be back on the water with a big smile on my face trying new tricks hahah and some blind landings!
7.Who is your biggest influence for wakeboarding?
I don’t know if I can pin influence on a specific person. I just love the sport, that feeling you get when you land a new trick you’ve worked hard to get. Everyone making an effort to improve their riding influences me whether it’s their first wake jump or attempting 7s It’s just fun to watch n be a part of!!
