Wakeology…. that’s it.
Born and raised in Port Alberni, Brody Coombs has had a presence in wakeboarding for years. He started riding about 6 years ago with a goal to reach the pro division. In 2009 he stepped up his game and answered the call for pro riders on the Island. Brody’s style of riding can be best described as powerful. Taking most tricks as big as possible with possibly one of the biggest Whirly Birds (Tantrum with a 360, no handle pass) you’ll find around.
What was the hardest trick for you to learn and how long did it take?
” The whirly bird and it took me 5 attempts to land the first one.”
Do you have any sponsors?
“I ride a Liquid force OMG but no sponsors yet.”
What’s the worst injury you’ve endured?
” I wrecked my knee last year crashing on a whirly bird in the Sproat Lake Comp. I decided to keep going and went for a raley off the double up to finish of my run. That made the injury worse and I spent the rest of the comp in pain.”
Have you recovered enough for this year?
“It’s all good now”
What are your plans for this year?
“This year i am going to ride in what ever i can but work is on the front burner.”
July 29th to 31st
Sproat Lake is hosting yet another wakeboard competition. This is by far the best comp for the Island and I highly recommend attending. It is open to all skill levels and you can almost always count on a good party for the saturday night. Live bands, dance floors and a wicked meal have been some of the highlights from the past years. Camping is available to a point and is usually around 15 for the night.
